Link Your Plaid Account

In order to connect to your bank account, BudgetSheet requires you to create a free Plaid account and use your own API keys for the connection.

Why does BudgetSheet not manage this for you?

Great question! The answer is that in order to be a fully self-contained extension with no reliance on web services built by BudgetSheet, we have to use your own API keys to fetch transactions from the Plaid API directly. Doing this requires a bit more setup steps upfront, but is ultimately more secure since your banking transaction data is contained fully within your own spreadsheet and Google account, and never passes through any other web service.

Plaid Link Setup Steps

  1. Create a free Plaid account
  2. When logged in to your Plaid account, navigate to the API keys page
  3. Open your budget spreadsheet, and click on the menu item at Add-ons > BudgetSheet > Setup > Link Plaid Account...
  4. Copy your API keys and secrets from Plaid into the inputs and click Link Plaid Account
  5. If your API keys were valid, they will be saved into the BSA_Settings spreadsheet.
